19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard surfaces
A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time coach his previous coach.
Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's initial championship following the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.
The win also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.
"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is particularly special," said world number 14 the champion.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.
The player's counter-punching approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to question if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.
However the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an better service.
The champion fought back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five points to go ahead.
The pair traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour title, gained dominance to push for a decider.
He rescued 4 early opportunities in a close final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to secure the win.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a shot after a lengthy match.
