Previous Federal Bureau of Investigation chief James the ex-FBI chief has denied the charges to making false statements to congressional representatives and impeding a legislative process.

Mr Comey's legal representative submitted the answer acting as his counsel in a national courtroom in the Virginia city of Alexandria on mid-week.

The defense lawyer announced he would seek to have the case thrown out for multiple causes including that his client, a opponent of former President Trump, was being singled out.

The former director was indicted just days after the former president pressured his top legal official to proceed against him.

Judicial Process

In court on Wednesday, Comey's lawyer Patrick Fitzgerald advised the court they planned to present several petitions to throw out the proceedings before a legal hearing, arguing the legal action was spiteful and that a federal prosecutor was wrongfully designated to assume control of the legal matter.

The former director's case was originally handled by a Virginia prosecutor, who stepped down under scrutiny from the former president after his examination into a different political adversary - NY AG Letitia James - was unable to bring criminal charges.

Legal Setting

James Comey seemed in optimistic frame of mind as he entered the legal venue on Wednesday, chatting with his legal team and making jokes. He was accompanied by his spouse, his wife and daughter Maureen, a US lawyer who the Trump administration dismissed.

Following the reading to the court state his rights and the two counts against him in the courtroom on Wednesday, Mr Comey was inquired if he understood the charges.

"I do your honour. Thank you very much," he told the proceedings.

Previous Events

The former director was the chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation from four years and was dismissed about a few months into Trump's first administration as national leader. At the period, he was overseeing an probe into foreign election meddling and whether there were any links between Moscow and the presidential campaign.

During his tenure, James Comey triggered a negative reaction from liberal politicians when he declared just immediately preceding the 2016 presidential election that he was probing Democratic candidate the candidate's use of a non-governmental email account. Indictments against the candidate were not pursued, causing criticism from the Republican party as well.

Ongoing Accusations

Prosecutors claim Mr Comey provided false information to US lawmakers during a congressional hearing in 2020 when he was being interrogated about both the previous examination as well as the Russia election probe. In a video Mr Comey shared to his Instagram after he was indicted, he said he was not guilty and charged Trump of acting like a "dictator".

"We have understood for considerable time that there are costs to standing up to Mr Trump," he commented. "We refuse to live on our kneeling."

These allegations against James Comey surfaced after the former president shared on digital channels calling for his attorney general, the attorney general, charge Mr Comey and others.
