Tetris Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Whenever a prominent prize-giving event draws close, you'll find an outcry for the addition fresh award types to recognize unsung work and delight the spirits of followers with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front because like all single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand remains most pressing above others. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include many game types, and you can find room for numerous titles.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked in any category in 2014
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games managed to sneak into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as the most-played games in the world continuing this trend for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these include experiences that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
