Around fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the residents for details.
An important political figure said the incident made him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
